Mozart
Mozart is a short film directed by Natalie Burchert, which focuses on the life of Nannerl Mozart, sister of the renowned Austrian classical composer. The plot centers around Nannerl Mozart telling stories of her past, highlighting her struggles to be recognized as an accomplished composer in her own right.
The concept behind the costume design supported a timeless, dreamlike, and ethereal visual quality, given that the majority of the scenes are to be perceived as Nannerl’s personal recollections rather than actual historical flashbacks. Even though all the film’s characters are actual historical figures, the director wished to tell Nannerl’s story in a more stylized and creative way.
My costumes blend 18th century fashion with 21st century haute couture aesthetics. Heavy emphasis was put on finding high-quality, well-made garments, and styling them with heavy influence from 18th century silhouettes and styles. It also allowed the use of fine jewelry and shoes to be prominently incorporated into the costumes, further allowing the costumes to become individually curated amalgamations of high quality textiles and notions.
